Fionnuala & Jonathon’s Steampunk Wedding Photography | Sydney
From the minute Nou and Jon told me it was going to be an intimate, themed wedding in their own backyard I knew they were onto something. Rewind ten months and we had just exchanged our first emails; it was May 2014 and the wedding date and location were still on a shortlist. Over the course of a year email ‘tag’ would be played, plans would change, and by February we finally had our first face-to-face over coffee to chat about the day. Steampunk was the theme, and a quaint backyard in Sydney’s Inner West was the place. Wait, a steampunk wedding? Why yes, please! One of my favourite subgenres with hands down the coolest aesthetic, architecture and attire known to sci-fi. With the entire family on board these guys nailed it big time, and this wedding was something special.
With over a year’s worth of planning it just wouldn’t feel right to hit a homerun on the first pitch, and from past experience we were bound to be thrown a few curveballs along the way. We split the ‘shoot’ into two days, starting with a formal shoot held two days prior to the main event, as a way of giving us freedom at a location that wouldn’t be accessible on the wedding day. As I greeted Nou and Jon at Ballast Point Park the heavens greeted us with torrential downpour that sent us scrambling across the city to plan B. With light fading fast it was a race against the clock. It’ll all work out in the end, right? Plan B was Carriageworks in Eveleigh, a location we had tagged as backup a mere few hours earlier, and a location that ended up as our plan A++. Carriageworks is a special location with the perfect mix of industrial aesthetic to compliment Nou and Jon’s awesome attire. These two hit it out of the park.
Two days later on the wedding day? Clear blue skies.
Congratulations Fionnuala & Jonathon! Thanks to Madeleine Zahra for lending a helping hand on the wedding day.
